Mercedes Benz Fashion Week: Designer Recaps-Rebecca Minkoff

A true west coast designer, Rebecca Minkoff stays true to herself with her Spring 2012 collection. Her inspiration was "Desert Love" which pulls references from architect Luis Barragan's poetic use of colors. Rebecca's muse, the desert, inspired her to design washed-out, weathered, and aged-by-the-sun prints that resembled old clothing worn out by the sun and wind in the desert.  Her palette embraced these earth tones with bursts of sunlight accented with pops of neon wihtin the collection. A true juxtaposition, Minkoff's designs mixed flowy, chiffon dresses with edgy leather cutouts and harnesses, staying true to the subtle edginess she is most known for. The styling was in-line with the collection with wind blown hair and simple but fresh rosy cheeks and pink lips. Each look was styled with Minkoff's iconic leather handbags and cluthces as well as a sampling of her new shoe line. Young celebs like Michelle Trachtenberg, Alexis Bledel, Katie Cassidy, Cameron Richardson, and Chris Pine all caught the show from the front row. As a Rebecca Minkoff handbag collector, I found her collection to be very refreshing and youthful. Photos courtesy of Getty Images.
