Mercedes Benz Fashion Week: Designer Recaps-Derek Lam

 Derek Lam’s inspiration for his Spring 2012 collection was California dreamin’ invoking “mid-century louche and luxury.” Basically, Palm Springs and the Rat Pack by the pool.  Lam’s signature clean lines and classic silhouettes were present and we saw 60’s geometric prints and canary yellow and coral colors mixed into fitted knits and flowy jumpsuits.  He also showed beautiful beaded tile evening dresses in loose, flowy silhouettes, perfect for dancing to a Frank Sinatra song. I especially loved the leather trench coat, the coral jumpsuit, and the geometric-printed separates.  Models were styled with slick-back ponytails and bushy brows.
