Douglas Hannant's ode to Shanghai's high society of the thirties was beautifully displayed at the Plaza Hotel during New York Fashion Week with his Spring 2012 collection. He used tweed, raffia, jacquard, lace, and silk fabrics to create sophisticated gowns, separates, and tailored suiting. His gowns were crafted with subtle ruching, deep-v necklines, fringed hems, and beading details to fit the styles of his socialite fans. In addition to NY's most recognized socialite faces, actresses Patricia Clarkson (in a stunning bordeaux sheath dress) and Rachel Griffiths applauded to many of the designs as they passed on the runway. Musician Corrine Bailey Rae also enjoyed the show from the front row. The hair and makeup styling was fantastic (styled by Edward Tricomi), with teased and crimped hair adding an edge to the sophisticated designs. Makeup was simple with soft, nude eyes and blush lips by La Metier de Beaute. All in all a very beautiful collection for a mature and chic woman. Photos below courtesy of zimbio.com.
